April - National Child Abuse Prevention Month

Press Conference - April 3rd, 2008

Community leaders addressed the media at the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center to raise awareness about child abuse and to promote safety tips to keep children safe.

"There are over 50 laws in Utah to protect our children from harm. We need everyone working together to accomplish this. It is a community problem and it will take a community effort to protect the kids." ~Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff

"It's great to know that we have the Children’s Justice Center to stand up and make a difference for the children in our community. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a place like the Children’s Justice Center to make sure the children are protected." ~ Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon

The yellow butterfly is the logo for the Children’s Justice Center to represent the delicate and beautiful nature of childhood, as well as the empowerment that comes with exercising your wings to fly. Butterfly lawn signs will be on display at the Avenues and South Valley Children’s Justice Center locations from April 1st to the 30th to represent over 1,400 child victims helped by the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center last year.

Bikers and Grandmas join forces at the NO MORE VICTIMS 5K Race to benefit abused children.

When runners step up to the starting line at the NO MORE VICTIMS 5K, they won’t be competing just for themselves - they’ll also be raising funds for the Children’s Justice Center of Salt Lake County.

Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) will rev up their motorcycles to kick off the 5K run, while the ladies of the Red Hat Society will lead the 1K Teddy Bear Walk for younger children. The theme of the race is “Fitness and Safety”. All children will receive a stuffed animal and informational flyers on internet safety, personal safety, and how to stay involved in exercise. In addition to awards for first through third place in several age categories, additional awards will be provided to special challenges.

The mission of the Children’s Justice Center is to provide a comfortable, child-friendly atmosphere where children receive coordinated services during the child abuse investigative process. The program serves over 1,500 children annually who have been victims of abuse and crime. Children are empowered to have a voice so the involved agencies can provide protection and justice. Donations are vital to the success of the program.
